Hi, I’m Christine Hockman
Turning Problems into Possibilities
You have this power too — even if you don’t realize it yet.
“In the midst of darkness, light persists.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
My journey has been anything but predictable — marked by massive changes, bold risks, and moments of stepping into the unknown. Through it all, I’ve learned to trust myself — and a bigger vision for my life.
Like so many, I’ve faced challenges and heartbreak. From 8th grade through college, I watched my beloved father endure nine years of illness — nearly dying nine times — undergoing three organ transplants and countless ICU stays. My childhood was filled with uncertainty and fear, but also profound love, lessons, and moments of joy.
My father chose to live each day with reverence, spirit, and joy — no matter his prognosis or where he was. Watching him navigate unimaginable hardship, I learned one of life’s most powerful truths: we always have a choice in how we respond to adversity.
Loss, caregiving, burnout, overwhelm, and failure have all tested me. But instead of allowing them to define me, I’ve used them to fuel my growth. My father left me a powerful “playbook” for resilience, and since his passing in 2007, I’ve dedicated nearly two decades to mastering and sharing the most effective tools for building resilience, well-being and joy.
I’ve defied medical diagnoses, reversing what were deemed “lifetime and irreversible” health conditions through nutrition and lifestyle changes. It took five years, but today, I’m free from those diseases — and I have a seven-year-old child after naturally achieving pregnancy against the odds.
As an ambitious woman, I’ve navigated complex career challenges — revitalizing team cultures, growing a startup, leading in nonprofit and public service roles, and working at the cutting edge of biomimicry innovation. The path has never been easy, but I thrive on tackling challenges and exploring my passions. I see life as a river — constantly winding and shifting — and my curiosity always pulls me toward the next adventure.
In early 2020, I launched my business, One Degree Shifts, just before the first case of COVID-19 was reported. I built it through the chaos of the pandemic with a clear vision: to design a business that revolves around my health, family, and freedom. And that’s exactly what I did.
Through every challenge, I’ve confronted self-doubt, people-pleasing, and perfectionism. These habits once held me back, but I’ve transformed them through relentless learning, positive habit-building and deep self-work. Every obstacle and misstep has become a lesson — a catalyst for growth.
Now, my mission is to share this approach with others.
We can’t afford to ignore problems or passively hope for change. Instead, we must cultivate mental toughness, curiosity and a joy-driven mindset that enables us to thrive alongside life’s chaos. That’s how we find beauty in the hardest moments — and keep hope alive.
In today’s unpredictable world, these skills are more essential than ever. I know I need them. And I’m committed to passing them on — to my son, my nieces and nephews, my clients and beyond.

Personally
I’m a big thinker, endlessly optimistic, curious and energetic.
Finding my edge and following my passion while being in service to others is my vision.
Summoning the best of myself and sharing her is my daily goal.
I seek to surprise, delight or lift someone’s confidence every single day.
Courage is my foundation to live authentically and boldly.
I aim to learn something new each day.
I’m a boy mom (yes to dirt and bare feet) and dog mom (yes to dirty paws), and seriously in love with my hunk of a husband (15 years).
I feel the most alive, strong and free while swimming in the ocean.
I love spending time exploring in nature, with my family, reading books (always reading a fiction book along with a personal growth, parenting or business book), cooking delicious meals and planning my next trip.
"Life is no brief candle for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."
— George Bernard Shaw
